Are you tired of sinning against God over and over, and over again? Maybe you think it isn’t possible to overcome sin? And if it can be done, then how do you do it? Well, let’s find out!
First of all, nobody is perfect. We have all sinned against God at one time or another. The Bible says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” But as a Christian, you have a war inside of you.
You have two different natures. You have a new spiritual nature, and you have the old fleshly nature. The two are always at war with each other.
Your old sinful nature wants to give in to temptation but your new spiritual nature does not want to sin. Your spirit wants to obey God, and you need to know that this will be a battle until the day you die. But don’t worry, Jesus has made a way for us to overcome this battle.
Tired of Sinning? – See What Paul Says
The apostle Paul says,”To be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. So then those who are in the flesh cannot please God.” [Romans 8:6-8]
As Christians, we want to please God so staying close to Him is the key to success. If you choose to act through your old sinful nature, even though you are tired of sinning, you will not be able to stop.
Here’s the good part. If you walk by faith and trust in Him you can overcome anything! Look at this scripture. “And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.”[Romans 8:10]
So what’s the answer? How do you overcome sin? The answer to this lies in understanding the difference between your old sinful nature and your new spiritual nature. You know, I’m so surprised that there are not more preachers and bible teachers out there who talk about this because it is so important for spiritual growth.
Some pastors today don’t want to do anything that will upset the congregation in fear of them leaving the church, but the truth should be told, no matter who stays or who goes.
If you are tired of sinning then read Galatians 5:16. “I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another so that you do not do the things you wish. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.”
So to walk in the Spirit, you need to crucify the passions and the desires of the old fleshly nature. Some people say, “But I have no self-control”. Well, your fleshly nature sometimes doesn’t, but your spiritual nature does.
Don’t believe the lies of Satan. Verse 22 says, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness,” and SELF-CONTROL, against such there is no law.” Also, the bible tells us that greater is He that is in us than he(Satan) that is in the world!
In verse 24 Paul says this. “And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit let us also walk in the Spirit.”
Don’t Listen to Satan
If you are a true believer, Satan will come for you and he will tempt you, Sometimes with a lot of different tricks. Some people struggle with one big sin instead of many small ones. It could be pornography or simply judging someone without fully understanding their situation. Sin is sin, no matter what sin it is.
Whatever it is, you can overcome sin, by putting on the full armor of God, and by thinking and walking, through the new spiritual nature. And be patient, because the more you grow spiritually in the Word and in Christ, the easier it will become to overcome sin.
James 4:7 says, “Submit yourselves to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” And if it is something big, where it starts to influence your whole life and it just seems like you can’t get that breakthrough, then start seriously praying to God – until you get that breakthrough.
If you struggle, then go and pray with a brother or sister in Christ that you can trust. James 5:16 says, “Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. This is spiritual healing as well as physical healing. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.”
The less time you spend in the Word of God, and with other brothers and sisters in Christ, the weaker you become against temptations. But when your mind is totally focused on God, when He is first in your life, then, it will be easier to overcome any temptations.
Every single day will be a spiritual battle, whether you like it or not, But if you keep your eyes on Jesus Christ, and you walk in the spirit, you will overcome most of those battles. And then, when you reach the level where you fully surrender every single aspect of your life to God, that is when you will fully live in God’s power and overcome sin.
